The Minnesota Museum of Mining explores the rich history of iron ore mining in the state through exhibits displaying pieces of equipment used during mining operations in the Mesabi Range, as well as a castle built from stone in 1933 and a rare 1910 Atlantic steam shovel. Many of the large machinery pieces, including an early 20th century locomotive, are open for children to climb on and explore, and the museum also boasts a replica mining town and mine shaft. The museum is located in Chisholm, near the Ironworld museum which also discusses local mining history.
